Beginning Metals I – 6-9PM

wednesday Evenings – Sept 6 - oct 11, 2023

This hands-on class covers the foundational techniques of metalsmithing. Learn to use hand tools such as a jeweler’s saw to pierce shapes from sheet metal while using these components to create jewelry or other metal art. We will thoroughly cover the use of torches and silver solder to fabricate jewelry such as rings, pendants for necklaces, and earrings. Building up your “torch confidence” by soldering metals like silver, copper, and brass will bring a new dimension to your work! Focus will also be on metal finishing techniques from filing and sanding to simple patinas and flex shaft polishing. Come away from class with beautiful, wearable jewelry, and the skills and knowledge to continue designing and making more!

Beginning Metals II – 6-9PM

Thursday Evenings – Sept 7 - oct 12, 2023

This continuation of our Beginning Metalsmithing 1 course will teach you more metalworking techniques and boost your confidence in the skills you’ve already been practicing. Learn to securely bezel set a stone or other found objects, adding unique expression to your jewelry or metal art. An introduction to texture with the rolling mill, steel stamps, and other mark making techniques on copper, brass, and sterling silver is covered. Add volume to your jewelry and metal art objects without extra weight by learning how to safely use a hydraulic press. Continue honing your skills with the soldering torches, and practice “cleaning up” your pieces by filing, sanding, and building on your knowledge of useful tools for the flex shaft. Come away from class with beautiful, wearable jewelry, and the skills and knowledge to continue designing and making more!

Hair Sticks and Forks – 9:30am - 12:30PM

Saturday – September 9, 2023

Hair sticks and forks are great for holding a bun in place when you need it. They can be minimal and stylish, or ornate in design. In this short three-hour workshop, you'll learn to heat metal, bend wires, work-harden, hammer, and forge a simple 2-pin hair fork! Leave this workshop with at least one finished hair stick or hair fork and add it to your accessories, maybe it will be your new everyday item!
